Modern diesels aren't a great idea if mostly using for shops/school run.

True - need more ideas on what you’d be using it for. If it’s only shops and school run could go full electric

If his Mrs wants BMW/Audi/Merc then full electric is out of the question @ 25k.
I can't see the point in buying a new car in this transitional stage of motoring. Save yourself some £££ and buy something 1 or 2 years old.

just get a q3 or similar, bit bigger, ive got a 1.4 q3 and its fine for around town and great on long runs to coast etc I think Paid 20k for mine 5 years ago 6k on the clock from audi, good quality (slime spec), no thrills but also pretty common so low on the theft spectrum.
to be totally boring id probably get the volvo equivalent next, but unless i encounter major issue ill just stock with this till electric is viable under 60k

The problem I have with electric is my garage is away from the house and leasehold.
And The freeholder is a cunt. So getting charge is an issue.
The Q3 looks best option, toying with spending a bit more and getting an Evoque but they are really shitty mpg

evoques are for chavs

Is chav still a thing? Didn't they become brexiters?

The infotainment in the new Volvos is so gash it’s put me off the entire range after I drove an XC60 for a week a while back

It’s only the fact it’s all touch screen

Evoque reliability is notoriously bad, probably give them a swerve unless getting a decent warranty

Only the new version looks good, older ones are well dated looking.

Quite liking the looks of Skoda’s new electric number.
