Does anyone here live in New York?
General Discussion: Moving to New York NY

Well, if you have expectations based on 80s/90s NY house then the house scene in Manhattan can be pretty boring on the whole - either bars or relatively commercial clubs like Cielo. There's more interesting stuff in Brooklyn but the sound systems can be awful. That said there's definitely some exciting house happening in NYC - labels like L.I.E.S., Deconstruct, The Corner, W.T., White Material and so on. If you do go there, take a wander down to Halcyon the record store in Dumbo, make friends with the staff (most of whom play out in NYC) and they'll get you into the scene.

Having spent time in both I can say NYC is not cool and easy like Berlin, it definitely has a fast life pace feel. It's big, travel can take a while (especially evenings/weekends). Your life will be very different depending on where your work is and where you decide to live. The hardest bit for me with USA in general is the poverty gap – you've got some of the richest people in the world there yet the poor people can be REALLY destitute in a way that the UK generally doesnt allow to happen. NYC has some amazing, relatively affordable restaurants, but you may find your meal is somewhat ruined by watching a hobo with nowhere else to go take a crap on the sidewalk as you leave.
