Portions huge obviously but quality of ingredients and the accompanying flavour was just poor. Even the "best pizza in NYC" was bang average.

Either our host went really wrong with her picks or standards are much lower in the States

I've not been for years but I had the same experience ! I don't know if I was just unlucky but everything was pretty much just OK.

Going to NYC in June, need somewhere to stay for 2 girls, 2 boys, maximum 9 nights but potentially as low as 6. Any recommendations for somewhere cheap to stay? Apartments/hostels and alla that kind of stuff.

Also obligatory 'will I get in with cautions?'

Look into Yotel. Stayed a month or so ago for relatively cheap plus $75 deposit per night you get back at the end.

Great experience, couple of blocks away from times sq on the West side.

I stayed at Pod39 when I was there in November. Small but good location, also the rooftop bar opens in summer which is decent. Apparently for the best prices, just turn up on the day instead of booking in advance.

Cautions shouldn’t stop you getting your ESTA phikz.

I’m moving to NYC in June - I’ll be looking for a place to live. If anybody has a spare room or knows someone, please let me know.

going to new york next week for a while - will be staying in green point.

any good recommendations for cheap eats / good bars?

also would be interested in what's good for shopping. will try opening ceremony but would be interested in other boutiques and thrift / vintage places

Round there:
Best Pizza does the best pizza (get the white slice and a grandma slice)
Rocka Rolla is the best dive bar
Tørst is a nice craft beer place
Good Room is a good club

Go check Budin for coffee. You´re also quite close to Red Hook so go to Hometown BBQ, drink Miller high life and eat the best BBQ outside of Texas
