I fuckin' loved New York. I fancy living there for a couple of years. Anyone done this? Is it a terrible idea?

i too had a great time when i went NY, but i wouldn't personally live there, its a bit too expensive for me

but i dont think its a terrible idea no, might be an idea to stay there for a few months first and get a feel of place before you commit to 2 years though. see if you vibe with it - living wise etc

I've lived there legitimately but no idea about all this talk about picking up and going for a couple of years? Its an amazing place to live and work and possibly the best experience you could ever have.

Any obvious purchases which are significantly cheaper than in the UK?

*Or things that are hard to find in the UK

You're yank aren't you? Funnily enough I been reading some blogs by some New Yorkers who hate the place after a while living and working there. The place can harden the soul, but then again I think it's no different from any major city that becomes groundhog day when you live and work there for a long time. Still one of the best places for visiting on holiday mind.

It's no different to London, gentrification and ex-hipsters hitting their 30s are slowly sucking the soul out of the place. Lot of peope going to Portland, Seattle, even LA these days over Brooklyn.

can get rooms in the marlton, standard or jane hotel for that much i think. all nice/very cool, though rooms will be small at that price.

Wythe is surely much more than $250 usd p/n?

Not stayed at the Standard and had also heard good things. We were gonna go for brunch at the grill though, but it seemed like a shithole, so swerved
