Pompeii is definitely worth a visit if you're taking the southern Italy option. We stayed in Naples (not far away on the train, half an hour or 45 minutes from memory) which we thought was a bit of a dump, hot, dirty and smelly. Quite a disappointment really.

But the train journey revealed that there were plenty of beaches in the area though.

Me and the mrs are going on holiday first 2 weeks in October.

Looking for a place where I can get a bit of culture and explore and the mrs can lie and sunbathe for the 2 weeks.

Places that have cropped up:

Southern Italy – we’ve never been and seemingly it’s still hot & sunny then with not many tourists about

Thailand – both been before and not really up for going to the same place twice, but loved it when we were there

Caribbean – going to cost about £1500 each, not sure I want to pay that to lie on a beach for 2 weeks and go demented sitting doing nothing

Anyone suggest anywhere?

tunisia / egypt /israel.

Bangkok - interesting place, spent 5 days there, loved it
Koh Samui - was good to chill out and do nothing, was proper touristy & trashy in some parts especially at night

thanks andy…

we've looked at Sorrento and a few other places…if we book independently it's working out just about £900 for a 2 weeks trip around that area and a night in Naples.

Tunisia is the worse country/place I have ever been to in my life. As soon as I arrived at the airport I knew I wanted to leave, people over there are cunts. All of them.

Anyone here got any advice on a holiday to Mexico over Dom Rep?

My bird is sorting a 10 day holiday originally to Cancun, Mexico to here - http://cancun.riu.com/pla/index.php

But have no had people say Cancun is a shit hole and full of twats?

So now she's looking at the dom rep which is cheaper at about £900 for 10 days but then doesnt know much about the place

i went to mexico but the pacific side instead

near a place called xtapa i think - something like that

the hotel i stayed in was really nice but everywhere around was like fucking benidorm for yanks, ive heard acapulco is the same as well

i think if you are going to do mexico you need to go 4 or 5 star otherwise its a bit shite

Andy is completely right; Naples is a proper dump.

Sorrento is nice, expensive as a result. Capri is a good day trip. I think you have to go to Pompeii if you are in that part of the world too.

Watch out for the Italian take on a "quality" hotels. We stayed in a four star one. Maybe it deserved 3 stars, just, but definitely shouldn't have cost 220 euros a night.

£900 seems like a good price for 2 weeks though, especially given what my massively under whelming hotel cost when I went. Although I'm not sure I'd want to stay for 2 weeks, seemed like a week would probably be enough.

dominion republic is a long fag smokers brabados/jamaica/st lucia.
cancun pisses all over it.
so sorry to be horrid if youve booked it (tho iberostar hotels are always nice anywhere in the world if thats any consolation), but it really is a third world hot country that easyjet flys to so people think its nice (hence why its cheaper than a week in blackpool). Cry

First name terms?

Staff should only ever be addressed as "staff".
