But echo what Duffman said, thailand is no longer a cheap holiday. If you want Thailand prices of 20 years ago go Cambodia/Laos.

That's generally the issue with a large number of Asian countries these days. Post 1997 (Asian financial crisis) the GBP and EUR FX were very strong vs Asian currencies. Now we are facing reversal with a number of Asian currencies getting stronger (EU Sovereign Debt crisis).

For cheap holidays in Asia I would recommend (on top of what MoB said) Vietnam and Philippines. Cheap beer, nice beaches. Philippines was a real surprise with some genuine untouched white beaches and decent diving if you are into that. Beers are also cheap (around 1 euro for a 330 of local in capital Manila, less elsewhere).

Nothing is cheap… unless you smoke.

Def will have to try Laos or Vietnam if I go back to Asia.

I’m done with Thailand now anyway, Phi Phi was well fucked, the place is a complete shit hole… Which is a shame.

Thailand is a dump and Vietnam is quickly descending into one. Seems to be the place everybody goes to now, packed with gap year students. Indonesia is still decent, especially if you like the beaches. Loved Loas too, the food was immense.

Love the benchmark of the price of beer being cheap, determining if a place is cheap Laughing out loud

On a beer tip, Tesco doing 12 Heinken 330ml for £5

If I can't find a decent grad job (looking unlikely) I'm going to get whatever I can find that pays for a bit and then go to Indonesia/Philippines and do some diving

Is Hamburg worth a visit in June? Done Berlin a few time; Frankfurt and Eindhoven are out of the question due to no flights with Easyjet from Manchester to there.

Hamburg is quite nice. I liked it there although it's definitely smaller than Berlin. It feels less urban I guess. Also it´s kinda sad that all the fun is mostly centralized in one place, the hooker street, Reeperbahn. It's a nice street to see and visit but after a few days it gets old.

That being said it's quite nice and if you go you should hit the golden poodle club. Very nice oldschool atmosphere.

St Pauli play there too and thats the bohemian district everyone seems to want to visit. Far rather visit Hamburg's stadium myself.

Agree with this. Hamburg is great for a weekend but my mates and I didn't find much to do outside the Reeperbahn. The Astra beer that every place did was pretty nice.

Beerbike in Hamburg is a good laugh but I think it may be banned now. Loads of decent restaurants down at the docks and there's a few man made beach bars which are nice.

I remember going to the dock at 5am after a massive session and seeing the Queen Elizabeth. Proper Jawdropping! on a massive comedown at that time and seeing that.
