Heading to Buenos Aires for for 9 days in October. Is it easy enough to get from BA to Montivideo? Seems as if you can get a ferry across.

Any other bits of advice would be appreciated.

BA to Montevideo. I did the slow ferry, spent a day in Colonia then went evening on the bus to Montevideo. There are of course other options:

Don't wander the streets of BA on your own and try not to look lost even when you are. If anyone tries to talk to you be polite and smile and try to stay in the touristy bits where crowds are. Never get your phone out in public and don't carry more money per day than you can afford to lose.

Sadly Buenos Aires isn't the place it once was.

Looking at your route, in San Fran you've got Self Edge and Union Made (think they have a few locations there).

In Santa Monica there was Fred Segal which carried a lot of good stuff, but think that's gone now (the one on Melrose is still there and is worth a visit - next door in a converted mechanics garage is RRL and just down the street is APC). I think that the outdoor mall there (Santa Monica Place) has a Barney's coop and the department store next door (forget which one it is) stocks some decent brands that you don't find at others (APC, OL, Gitman etc).

If you go into LA then you have quite a few decent stores although they are quite spread out. On La Brea there is Union which is probably the best all around store (imho), Undefeated, Stusssy, American Rag, Steven Alan, Unis (I think) etc all in close proximity.

And on Fairfax (short drive from Melrose and La Brea) there is Flight Club, Supreme and Canter's Deli which is always worth a trip for food (park in their lot if you going to eat as they validate with a food receipt).

If you buy records then you should definitely head to Amoeba, that place is unbelievable.

Opening Ceremony in LA, as well as Maxfield, where you might bump into celebrities doing their shop.

Changing £3K to dollars, is there any point waiting a fortnight to see if the rate improves or do I just accept I fucked up not changing before brexit?

Just get one of these, load it up with £3k and when you withdraw from ATMs over there it'll be at the spot rate at that time.

I did Kota Kinabalu in Sabah a couple of years ago for 1 week and loved it. Beaches are unspoiled and the water is crystal clear. My cousin advised to split our time between the city and the beach, but we decided to spend all the time by the beach because we were only there for a week. If you're going for three weeks splitting it between the two is definitely a good idea.

I highly recommend going Scuba diving out there because the water is that clear and doing a one day induction course as no PADI certificate is required. I went with http://downbelowadventures.com/ where the majority of Scuba instructors were Australia or Welsh Laughing out loud We had a Welsh instructor between the four of us and they don't go beyond that number for an induction group.

Next time I'm out there I'd like to do a mountain climb of Kota Kinabalu mountain to see the sun rise.
