stayed here in Mykonos last year, amazing place, we were by Elia beach which was nice, only downside was a 30 min bus ride to town in the evening. The best beaches are away from the action.

I'm guessing the closing parties may have already happened by now, but check out info for Paradise/Super Paradise beaches to see if there's still anything happening.
We stayed 10 mins walk outside of the main town, here:

Lots of good places to eat in the main town - M-Eating, Avra Garden, Kounelas Fish Taverna (nothing fancy but freshest fish on the island apparently),Fata A Mano. Check them out on Trip Advisor.
Little Venice area is good for a drink with views/for sunset - Katerina's Bar is our 'go-to' when in Mykonos - but you're looking at €15 a cocktail and €6 for a 330ml Mythos beer.
Be prepared - Mykonos is a total rip-off. Personally, we hop round other islands nowadays and just get back to Mykonos on the day we are heading home, to catch our flight. It's a nice place though and at least it'll be a fair bit quieter than when I spent the afternoon there in August, it was fucking chaos with cruise ship passengers!
This link will show you how busy your days in the main town will be, might give you an idea of a few days where it might be best seeing a different part of the island:

I didn't visit Ornos so can't really help with advise for exactly where you're staying.

Anyone who's thinking to go to Bali, I recommend staying in Sanur and/or Ubud. Seminyak and Kuta is full of Aussie expats and far too touristy. Traffic in Kuta is crazy, which makes getting about a little tiresome.
I definitely recommend renting a driver for a day, we used http://www.balirentalcarwithdriver.com/. Cost us £20 from 8:30am to 6pm. You can Uber it, as Uber is dirt cheap over there. Less than £1 for a 20-25min car journey, but they can be sparse in areas, such as in and around Ubud as the majority of drivers are part time.
If you want a change from the local street food, I highly recommend this restaurant http://www.locavore.co.id/ in Ubud.
Oh and Water Rafting (book through http://www.raftingbali.net/bali-adventure-rafting/), Snorkling and Kayaking are a must.
Has anyone done Iceland? Planning a 7 day self drive holiday next year, but I'm thinking 7 days isn't enough…

Thanks. Yup ring road is the plan. I've looked at some people's 7 day itinerary travelling around the ring road and on the surface they look quite jam packed. I'd rather arrive to a spot and leave earlier than scheduled to move onto the next, than regret not having enough time - especially with the short daylight times during certain months of the year. On that note, what time of the year did you go? We were planning late February/early March, but we may now shift it to early October.
I went in summer, mid August. Weather was good overall and days still long enough to exploit them well.
May - August is definitely the best period to go, and June\July in particular the best months; those are the driest of the year, have longer days and warmer weather too.
In addition to this, but depending on what your interests are, in summer you have the chance to see both whales and puffins. They usually leave the island around mid August.
On the other hand, in both the periods you have in mind, you have the chance to see aurora borealis…personally i'd go for the latter, maybe even September if you can, as the weather overall will be much warmer than in winter.
