saint-germain-des-prés is my new favourite part of paris. not as crowded as anywhere else, very parisian & relaxed, lot of nice cafes and nice smaller shops to discover.
for shopping just walk around rue st honore or palais de tokyo (always worth a visit). Nightlife is pretty nice in the 17 or 18 Ar, just don't go too close to sacre coer at n8. You'll only smell piss and get robbed.
If you need some names of restaurants let me know, but i guess you'll have more fun just wandering around these areas and discover places yourself.

There are loads of cool bars and places to eat up the Rue Vieille du Temple in Le Marais. Au Petit Fer à Cheval is a particular favourite but it can get pretty busy.

La Patache on Rue de Lancry up by the Canal St Martin is good too if you're in that area.

Girlfriends a teacher so we have to go away in school holidays, anyone recommend anywhere for 7 days in august?

Anywhere in the world, preferably quiet and not mad pricey (if thats possible!) even villa recommendations would be good.

Wife's a teacher so i only really get to go in school holidays, I've never been anywhere and thought the school holidays spoiled it but you do get stung for sure! I've been all over in August the med is great that time of year been to Ibiza loads but been further afield too Mexico Cuba Maldives etc and never regretted it you do get more storms long haul but still nice and hot. We're going to Croatia for two weeks this year.
Depends what you want really

Anyone did anything else than Bali in Indonesia?

I'm thinking about travelling south from Jakarta to Bali in August in about two\three weeks depending on how much there's worth seeing\doing down there

I spent 2 weeks traveling around Bali when I was there for my wedding and honeymoon. There's plenty of different things to do. If you're more into a slow pace, nature exploring and culture, definitely go to the Northern area Ubud, or Sanur in the South East. Personally, I'd avoid Nusa Dua and Seminyak, the latter is more for young partying people and full of Aussie expats (Ibiza equivalent for Australians).

One thing I definitely recommend is white water rafting. I went with http://www.baliadventuretours.com/index.php/en/package-tours/white-water-rafting.html who were faultless. The views you experience are breath taking.

Food wise, you have to try the babi guling and if you want something a bit more upmarket with a Noma vibe this place is great http://www.locavore.co.id/

Yeah, pretty much just after a chilled beach holiday really, or a decent villa with a private pool anywhere hot!

If you're going to the Gili islands try Lombok.
Nice place with way better beaches than Bali.
