I renewed mine in May- the Passport office received it on the 14th and shipped the new one on the 19th.

Experience of first bit of foreign travel since Covid.

London -> Koln, 1 night, Ryanair, from Stansted

Massive queues for security at both ends. Definitely advise arriving at airport 2 hours before flight. In Koln, passengers in the security queue complaining that the scheduled flight time had already passed whilst they were in the queue. Most flights must've been delayed to accommodate. Was expecting the delays on this side, wasn't expecting the delays in Germany.

Documents checked when flying out (apart from passport and boarding pass standard):
- At Stansted: Proof of double vax
- At Koln: Proof of double vax, German passenger locator form

Documents checked when flying in (apart from passport and boarding pass standard):
- At Koln: Nothing
- At Stansted: Nothing

So the UK Passenger Locator Form wasn't checked at all. £40 paying for a day 2 test went down the drain Laughing out loud Not sure if this was standard procedure, or because everything was massively delayed and shortcuts taken.

PLF on return was checked. Border control have it on their system that you either filled it in correctly, incorrectly or not at all when you're scanning passport at the gate. Had you not done it, the gate would most likely not have opened and they would be sending you to another queue where you have to explain yourself.

They do however for the most part not double check the day 2 booking ref and have heard stories of people putting in whatever they like and getting through but personally wouldn't risk that myself for the sake of £35.

I wonder if a lateral flow tests will actually be cheaper than randox PCR day2 click&collect at £35 when Shapps announces the day 2 PCR is to
be scrapped in time for half term. Given the clusterfuck of it all so far I imagine demand for them will go up and so will price Laughing out loud

No gates at Stansted, passports were checked by a human.

Stansted has e-gates. Maybe they were down which can happen and you get sent to a standard gate. Your passport was still scanned by human and not just looked at.

I did try this last week but I think there must be some accepted format for codes- so if you plan to do this maybe best to ask someone who has already generated a reference code.

Driving from Chichester/Sussex way to Ripon/Yorkshire on Sunday. Have an 8 month old so need to stop every 2 hours or so. Best route for stop offs with interest? Leaning towards the A1.

I loved Bavettes Bar and Grill for steak. Au Cheval for burgers. Pequods for deep dish. RPM seafood was good for drinks overlooking the water

Heading back to the US next week starting in Brooklyn. Been before but wondering if there's any new bars/restaurants/shops worth visiting? Best pizza? Burgers? Beers?

Shop wise I would definitely recommend Visiting BBDW - M.Crow flagship in soho. Tyler Hays interior and clothing store. Probably one of my favourite shops ever.

It's very unique, as he sculpts, paints makes furniture, pottery, and clothing. A lot of items are one offs. It a big store, entrance to furniture show room on Crosby and then entrance to the clothing through Howard st.

Some pics/vids from my last visit just before covid.
