He just made a gospel album, and SONICALLY, it is what this era should be on par with. Just the fact that he got millions of people to listen to songs with morals is praiseworthy enough in my humble opinion.
But there's no real content. Contrast it with Stormzy's 'gospel' album this had a greater impact than Ye's as it came across personal and genuine i.e. as if he truly was religious.
Kanye simply mentions Adam and Eve a couple of times and threw in a few Jesus' and God here and there and categorised it as a 'gospel' album.

not quite true. 808s/twisted fantasy/yeezus was an incredible creative peak.
seems to have definitely passed that with the last few, unfortunately.
Followed his career since day dot (back when the leaks still used Kayne West, good times).
Not listened to the new album yet, but will give it a go.
The U-turn on 808s is amazing. I remember when it came out, and it was universally panned (by hip hop heads at least). Now it's seen as a seminal album, a turning point in popular music history (rise of Drake, etc).
The Dissect series about MBDTF is an amazing listen.
