But surely you must realise that fashion is merely swings and roundabouts with new takes on the old?

AND i also think that button down shirts and chinos are pretty much staples in a mans wadrobe..

that's not fashion, it's clothes. there is no new take on those 3 items. in 1985, we wanted the Ivy League/Italian 'Paninaro' scooter boy look and there was a scene to go with it but this is just a generic M&S blue harbour middle aged, middle Englander thing .
There's so much more to explore and available now

The new take is that it's fitted, in the eighties, it was loose. And of course it's fashionable at the moment to look like you're from Ivy - Chuck Bass, George Lamb, Band of Outsiders, A Continuous Lean, Men's Non-No, Monocle magazine, last year's Pitti Uomo…

Men always revert to suits etc in recession time.

believe what you want to believe - it was pretty fitted in the 92 'revival' (Ralph Lauren versions), as worn by the American Classics boys in the Kings Rd, untucked, with chelsea boots, which may have kicked off the whole 'untucked shirt' thing.

whatever. most of the posts I've seen re button downs resemble middle aged men at blue harbour imo, perhaps no-one I've seen has nailed it yet, although being such a simple look, it shouldn't be hard..

don't get your comment re suits.

Fair point re: the shirts looking like blue harbour. Perhaps its just what else you wear them with. Perosnally i wouldnt wear deck shoes, chinos and an oxford shirt all together…OVERKILL!

Re suits - they are more popular in economic downturn. People want to look smarter and serious, for obvious reasons. I'm sure the oxford shirt/chinos/laofers revival is no co-incidence.

and technically it's not thom browne x brooks brothers, but rather thom browne for brooks brothers as the black fleece line is a regular line and not a collabo

picked up one of those carhartts, kind of disappointed, dont like the fit that much and retailing at 50 quid you'd expect more in terms of quality, bought for 35 so i think i'll keep it but not worth it otherwise
