The Metro is really easy and very efficient. Get a "carnet" of 10 tickets from the ticket machine (which have an English option) as it's cheaper than individual tickets.

There's not much difference in distance from the "centre centre" to St Germain or Le Marais.

PH wrote: Wasnt doing much shopping but tried in vain to find the CDG shop (using ths Superfuture map) but dont know if its even still there, could only find the parfum one. Went to Colette which was smart.

CDG Shop is on the inner courtyard of a building (54 rue du faubourg Saint-Honoré), when you go inside the building, there are two courtyards, on the second one you'll find on your left CDG and Play on your right. (I think that there is damir doma in the first one).

edit : just saw that the original post was years ago.

I'm going on thursday with my girlfriend for a few days. Still not sorted accommodation, though seen an apartment in the marais we will probably rent. Was going to stay in mama shelter but doesnt seem to be much around there.

Any more last minute tips for unusual/quirky things to do or places to eat?

If you like architecture or nice public spaces generally, and you happen to be in the Marais, then Places des Vosges is really really nice.

The hot air balloon at Parc André Citroën is worth doing, great views.

Details in English here.

edit: found some photos from when we went.

I stayed in Mama Shelter and whilst the area is a little quiet, it's a very easy 15/20 min Metro/Bus into the centre. Great pizza place at the hotel too.

Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely going to do that Andy, my girlfriend will love it i reckon.

Jimm - read about silencio - would probably check it out but think its members only?

Mr Tiger - how did you rate the hotel generally?

I'll take a slap on the wrist for dragging this thread up but girlfriend is living in Paris currently (flat in Le Marais), going there for best part of three weeks on wednesday. I'm starting to make a bit of a list of places to take her as I've been saving over the last couple of months and want to show off etc. Anyone got any kind of recommendations for mainly nice hidden places or cafes and things like that?

you going to be there april 26th, 27th or may 7th?

head over to instan chavirés in montreuil (two metro stops on line 9 out the east of paris) for some shows that are sure to be great. wolf eyes and their solo projects the 26th and another show plus some group jams the 27th and otomo yoshihide the 7th.

In La Marais you have quite a bit going on. Merci is a good shop and cafe/bar. There's also a new APC pretty much next door. Bit further towards Repubic is an Oyster Bar
/Cocktails called MaryCeleste which is good. Good selection of beer as well. Just down from there is a bar/restaurant called Beaucoup which is really good. Bastille market on a Sunday is really good for breakfast as well.

Essentially, there's an awful lot in Le Marais.

Also, the Promenade plantée walk in Bastille is good to do. It's a walk along some disused train lines that have been turned into a garden. Lots of flowers and water features. Good for a morning stroll.
