I love the older bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag and bands like Thursday and Hatebreed. Out of Step by Minor Threat has to be one of the best and most influential albums ever. It's outstanding

Never really got into the new bands. Stuff like Against Me is just watered down pish really.

Two other bands worth a listen are Sick of It All (esp the albums 'Blood, Sweat and No Tears' and 'Life on the Ropes') and also Descendents.

This is all you need.
Seriously, check out Dangers. So aggressive.

And for punk, you only need to listen to Latterman. I think they are honestly the greatest pop punk band ever, perfect melodies, perfect sing-alongs and the kind of band that make you think 'There is no point me making a band because they will never sound as good as this.'

I'm going to see Get Up Kids at Electric Ballroom tomorrow, can't wait. I heard they've been really good?

That's not fair really, in what way are they watered down? I'll admit their latest release was pretty bad in places(like a lot of bands) but their earlier stuff that i mentioned above is far from watered down. Really good gritty, folky punk rock, they're not a hardcore band.

I like Hatebreed and own a lot of the Descendants stuff, even their later stuff is good. Sick of it All have never really clicked with me on record but I've seen em a few time live and they've been great. Can't wait to see Thursday at leeds Smiling

Seriously? I don't think the Larry Arms sound anything like Latterman, although they're still fairly good. Actually, the only album I like of theirs is Oh, Calcutta.

For me Trash Talk, Iron Lung and Ceremony have to be the best bands in hardcore right now.

Touche Amore LP is good, but I can't help but feel they're only getting so much hype because the US screamo scene is so fucking turgid compared to Europe and Japan.

Also Cursed need to reform, I miss that band.

No not the most recent one, if only because that album is released on the kid from Fall Out Boys label. Start with Jerseys Best Dancers, and if you like that move on to Hello Bastards. Saw them in Leeds two years ago it was epic, I took some friends, I told them that Lifetime were one of Taking Back Sundays biggest influences, which is true but misleading - they werent happy post-show. posted before i think but a young themistake, stage diving at hellfest 2k3, syracuse, nyc state fairground.
hellfest was my mecca from 2001-2003. 2k3 i think was the last one in syracuse, 2004 was the last one ever???

albums i still listen to…(but only stuff released pre 2003, not downloaded/bought anything since then)

i say albums because most hardcore bands were only good for a short amount of time, couple of ep's/ 1 album etc.

until the end - blood in the ink
7a7p - Jhazmyne's Lullaby
champion - count our numbers count our hearts
shai hulud - ep and 2 albums.
stretch armstrong - revolution transmition
figure four = suffering the loss
carry on - a life less plagued
american nightmare - early ep's and background music.
with honor - demo.
throwdown - you dont have to be blood to be family
