I disagree completely. Some animals have a proven worth that far exceeds their value as a piece of meat. What I'm getting at is some animals (livestock) are pretty useless and appear to me to have been put on this planet as a food source. Wheras other animals have an intelligence and/or physical attributes that excel them above being a mere food source.

You wouldn't ride a chicken or cow into battle and there's a reason why police use dogs and not pigs.

However that is partly because we have selectively bred certain animals to bring out various traits for the purposes we desire.

Causing the kind of suffering illustrated in that link is different from whether we should eat certain animals or not though.

isn't this a clear clear case of 'wrong' double standards?
on the one site it's okay that european slaughterhouses alone kill around 360 million pigs & cows and over 2000 million chickens, but of course it's not okay to kill some dogs in korea.
the main problem nowadays is that we don't see a piece of meat with the value & respect it deserves and that we as humans abonded the fact that it's actually a slaughtered animal we eat.
…naaa, it's just some italian salami or some salty bacon which looks tasty in the supermarket.

ime you simply fool yourself if you think the one thing is cool, and the other is not because you can ride with it to a battle whatsoever…
no animal actually wants to die, every animal has an inner propulsion to live and if you ever saw a cow on a hook flinching it's just as heartbreaking as those pictures from korea…at least for me. Puzzled

Agree to an extent shame, but it is the way in which they kill things that make people upset. Look at the cuisines across China, Japan et al where they eat live frogs and fish, eat tigers cock, drink fresh blood, and they make the animals truly suffer. Can't remember where but I saw an image somewhere where they were drying out shark fins on a rooftop. There were 1000's and the way in which they chop them off and throw them back in the sea is pitiful. I agree that killing is killing but the majority of these dishes are delicacies/specialities.

Have you never seen those live fish markets where there are fish that have no purpose of being killed. They boil snakes alive, tortoises, turtles. Just fucked up imho

Fuck off, some animals have a clear and obvious use that exceeds their worth as food, its not that hard to understand. What other use does a lobster have? Correct me if they're very lovable & make great pets or if you can use them to help plough your fields.

Would I eat a horse if I was starving? Yes. Would I eat one when there's an abundance of other food? No

Also I don't eat anything I wouldn't feel comfortable killing myself.
