This is the fundamental point, and sorry, while you put it eloquently I think you are wrong. The whole thing entrenches Inheritance through birth, not earning through merit.

Puzzled I very much doubt we will ever live in a meritocracy regardless to be honest. Plus, what even is a meritocracy anyway? Everything from our work ethic, resilience, inteliigence, positivity etc is all bred or hard-wired in to you anyway.

a meritocracy has social mobility allowing equal opportunity to everyone, not just thoise born into wealth. You can doubt it all you like, the queen is the head of a class system which keeps most of you plebs down, and Mercibeau's tugging of his forelock saying its better for all of us is what I'm challenging.

It's no coincidence that nearly all politicians go through eton and oxford, then award contracts to their unqualified tory chums, they know us plebs are complicit and have been sold a pup whereby it's divine right.

The best way to get on in this country is to be born rich.

You could sum up my opinion as 'We are all equal under the Queen', having the monarchy for me brings a sense of equality far greater than anything else.

Feel free to disagree but that's my belief. Like Essex says - there's always gonna be some unfairness, and having something as ridiculous as a monarchy lets us accept a bit of unfairness and see everyone beyond the Queen as equal… Whether they are rich, poor, Muslim, Sikh, Welsh, black, smart, stupid, whatever.

If anything the belief in a monarchy makes the kind of cronyism and corruption you highlight more unpalatable.
