Where should I be looking?
canary islands/greece/tunisia/turkey is probs about as warm as you are gonna get on that budget i would think.

Yeah Canary islands looks the best shout. Dont want Lanzarote as I worked there though, so Gran Canaria looks the one.

Anyone know where to get good deals? Dont want to go with Thomson….

Dunno where you're thinking in Gran Canaria but it's a concrete jungle and the lively bit (Playa Del Ingles) is such a dive

No idea mate, never been, just need a nice little hot week away with my bird, and we have a budget of about £600, as we will be going on a big holiday early next year.

Wikipedia wrote: Critics such as Conservative Party London Assemblyman Brian Coleman have suggested that the involvement of Asad Rehman, a former leader of the Stop the War Coalition and adviser to MP George Galloway, in the Justice4Jean campaign shows that the family's campaign had been "hijacked" and the death of de Menezes was being used to "advance a political aim."

robii wrote: Anybody know about benefits available for people with mental ilnesses? Friend of mine has and her doctor's said she's not fit to work. She's tried to claim incapacity benefit but the job centre reckons she hasn't paid enough national insurance to be able to make a claim - how can she pay national insurance when she can't work?

Mental health care in this country is an absolute joke but getting angry isn't going to help her so I'm trying to find out what she can do. I'm so frustrated with the way she gets passed from pillar to post so I can't imagine how she feels but there must be something she can do

How old is she? If she's under 20 she doesn't need to have paid any NI. Tell her to go to her local Citizens Advice Bureau - they'll be able to help her claim.

She's 25 in December. Finished Uni when she was 22. Not done much since. Psychiatrist thinks she's got borderline personality disorder but she hasn't had any formal diagnosis so she has had to make the claim on the GPs diagnosis of depression. I know it makes a difference to her benefits in this crappy system, but really, what difference should it make how old she is, how much NI she has paid?

Oh, and technically she's homeless (living with me for now). Can't believe they're telling her she's not entitled to any help

Hmm sounds all too familiar. I had to fill in loads of tax shit when I applied for Incapacity benefit last year, but yeah basically they said if I hadn't paid enough NI I wouldn't qualify for it. Thank fuck I've been working since I was 16. Was a joke though, had to send off payslips and stuff. I was thinking how on earth scummers sign on to the dole so easily when they probably haven't had a job for years or at all?!?!

But yeah tell her visit the local CAB or visit a Job centre and speak to someone about it. Unless she hasn't had a job at all?

EDIT: Has she tried applying for Disability benefits? Which is actually a tad different from Incapacity…

She's worked but she went to Uni straight after school and since leaving Uni has mainly been abroad. She has worked/paid tax but not that much. Think the other thing is Disability Living Allowance but it's only about £20 a week
