Any seasoned runners got any advise for how I should be getting into it, ie targets for distances etc?

Did 5.39km today at a very slow pace. Will be going twice a week.

Where abouts in Paris bud?

Nike's Le Marais store. I've been myself, it's good but mostly large sizes left, L and upwards.

@Ruben, careful you don't increase your distances too much in a short space of time, ideally you should increase it by 10% a week, especially if you're not a seasoned runner.

Run 5k 4 times a week until you hit sub 25. Then 10k 4 times a week until you hit sub 50. After that interval training two times a week plus two or three longer runs, by then you should know what a realistic goal for you is, i.e. sub 40-45 on a 10k or sub 1:30-40 on 21,1 km.

^^ Cheers joe but not going for the aidsy look like yourself - just want to increase my fitness along with hitting the gym 3 times a week, so will stick to the 5-10k mark and look to increase speed rather than distance.

10%, thanks rirawin - will work on that.

Basically I need to lay off my shoulder completely for it to stand a chance of recovering so am running a bit to compensate for less time lifting.

I started running a few weeks ago, been using a interval training app but pushed a bit on it as not really felt enough from the program so usually running a few extra sets or a longer run at the end at a slower pace at the end of a session to get used to actually running for a longer period, Ive not really ran for 10 years prior to this, I can feel improvement but last weekend I did 2 5k session (interval based) and this week my knees have been fucked.

should I attempt a light session this weekend in line with the program or should I lay off for a week till I do not feel any ache?

Pulled out of the ny marathon this week. Deffered until next year. I've been running well but work commitments over the next couple of weeks have halted my progress and won't beat my last time, which is all I'm doing it for. Not charitable.

Hit tequila based manhattans hard all evening for aw, came home 5hrs too late just to find a package from my wife on the dining table, was like a kid on christmas and had to try it out. Just did a 5k under 4min/km, life lesson learned, always be drunk and good things will come your way. Downside is im sober as fuck now plus managed to put on the heartrate band backwards.

Joe Cool Have to hook you up with the FUK Garmin Connect group link. It's buried a few pages back if you wanna find it before I manage to dig it out.

Ruben - can't go wrong with GORE wear. Personally, I just use a lightweight, breathable Adidas jacket that's pretty good for showers but will let it in if it's pissing down.. Gotta admit, I rarely use my GORE jacket as I find it too warm.

I always tend to get too hot in waterproof jackets. I have an underarmour one which I barely use but seems decent, though it's also not fully waterproof.

Key thing for me is running in tech material tshirts so they are still comfortable unless totally utterly drenched through.

theres no point in waterproof for running for the above reasons, what you want/need is quick drying textiles with the best breathability, anything truely waterproof (gore tex) will just not breath well enough, so all you will end up is soaked in your own sweat and very hot.

Did you get out, seenmy or rest?

Pretty much bang on about this but religious stretching is key to avoiding (or at least keeping a lid on) aches, pains and general stiffness caused by running. Something that everyone's aware of but just gets overlooked. I rarely used to stretch but do my best to spend 5 to 10 minutes do it before and after every outing now.
