figurine - I have two pairs of meermins a double monk in country calf and some brogues on the olfe last which are linea maestro.

If you are going to get them then go with the linea maestro line as the quality is excellent and they mould to your feet much better. SF is full of americans nit picking over nothing and wanting their cheap spanish shoes to be the same as some handmade gaziano and girlings so I ignore most of the comments on there now.

If you want an alternative to look at then markowski do good shoes that I have two pairs of. They wear really well; as good as the higher end meermins do. Also septiemelargeur.fr do a good shoe from the looks of it, but I don't have any actual experience with them.

I ordered a pair of Meermin Bluchers from their classic line back in June (have been discontinued since). I only received them a couple of weeks ago.

€179.99 shipped

Service isn't great. They quote up to 30 days (it's 20 days now) until they bill you. I was billed on the 30 day mark. Paid within 24 hours of receiving the invoice and expected them to be dispatched within 5-7 days as stated within the payment receipt. 7 days passed, then two weeks. No word, so I chased them up. They said they would dispatch within 2-3 days. 4 days passed, chased them up again. No reply until 48 hours later I received a dispatch email. No apology or any explanation for the delay.

Lack of communication/updates aside, the shoes are good for the £150 mark, and I have no complaints about the shoes themselves.

If you do order a pair, be prepared to wait and don't expect any level of customer service. Oh and I'm not even sure they offer a resoling service…

EDIT: In regards to sizing, I find these come up a little smaller than Trickers. I know it depends on the last, but I'm normally a UK8 in shoes and boots, and took a UK8 in these. While they are quite a wide fitting, I think I could have benefited with a UK8.5 (no nankid). No doubt they'll give a little once I've seasoned them. I'm a UK9 in Vans, Converse and Nike FWIW.

Nice but sounds like a lot of hassle, would just go for the Loake variant at about £120-150 if I remember correctly.

Meermin are now manufactured in China, hence the longer lead times.

Meermin has always been manufactured in China, hence the prices are so low. The finishing is done in Mallorca as far as I know. In terms of the Meermin vs. the Loake I think the lasts are better shapes from Meermin as some of the Loake lasts can be really rounded and blobby. There is a group made to order on at the moment which is a copy of crockett and jones hallam - http://www.meermin.es/grupoMTO.php?idGrupo=16

I am going to get in on that I think. Look very good for the price.

What's the quality like for this? How do they compare to high end English shoe makers?

Nowhere near as good a finish as a high end english like Crockett hand grade or Edward Green etc. I would suggest they are better finish than Loake or very similar. The difference is in the last shapes and the designs generally. They are good value for money I think. The higher end linea maestro line is comparable quality to Crockett bench grade and around £150 cheaper. If you want to try them out then have a look on here for the overstock/sample sale/defect ones they do. http://goodyearshoes.bigcartel.com/

I picked up a pair of black brogues from that site for 50% off and they are brilliant quality with no defects.

Not a bad comparison actually.
