I just set up a board for the first time in years during lockdown 1. Just been skating flatground and curbs, learnt slappies and can still full cab flip so I'm happy.

I still have a pile of Sidewalks somewhere Scottishmark, can you remember the cover of the one you were in ?

Cool .

I’m sure the cover is of Bristo square in Edinburgh (I think that’s the case as I remember my gran being on the cover unless I’m getting mixed up).

The caption referred to me as “12 year old vintage haggis” or something equally weird so it must have been in 2002. And the picture was at the Bristo jam so it would have been around or just after that (although I can’t remember when that was).

Our Safeway's (Livingston, which is long gone) had a covered walkway running up the side of the store. It must have been 100M+ long and about 4 or 5m wide.

Alot of the guys who used to skate would keep little mini rails or other bits in bobs in their cars and when it started raining we'd all exodus from Livingston skate park up to Safeway's - get all the gear out the cars - then take up residence in the covered walkway. Good times. Cool

I skated throughout my teenage years. Got a new set up about 5 years ago, was amazed at how quickly I picked it back up again.

My main issue was I just found it embarrassing being a mid 30 year old skating around trying to pick it up again. When I was at the local skatepark I would say there was 20/30 people and apart from me the oldest there was about 18.

Only get to skate every 2 weeks and don´t kill myself any more but it´s still fun and will always remain a part of my life.

Yes Smokie!

How many times did you watch Zoo York Mix Tape on release!?

Dozens of times man.
Followed by the Workshop Videos, 411, Transworld videos etc.
Used to buy those copies for 50 or so a pop in the local skateshop.

I´m pretty much used to being the oldest guy in the skatepark but I don´t care.
My crew ranges from 20-39 with occasional old guys coming in twice a year or so.

I still look young though and I´m young at heart…Laughing out loud

I'm hoping it's not too difficult to get back into the swing of things. I'll be avoiding any parks until I can be sure I won't make a complete dick of myself, for sure. Laughing out loud Cry

Always wanted to skate Livingston, bowl looked mega. It’s crazy how many parks have popped up in the last 15 years, most I’ve seen aren’t amazing mind.

Go early to a park SM, that’s what I did when I was getting back into it for the last time. Few manuals, boardslides, it’s funny how fast it returns as Zoom says.

GG I’d probably get a cruiser type board if I was to now actually, one with the shorter nose; still do a few tricks but mainly blasting about.

Yeah had all the 411’s Smokie, Rolling Thunder, Welcome to Hell (slam section). I remember the Girl vid Mouse being epic too. Cheers for the Baker vid link, will watch that later Cool

Mark, might know some of the people I skate with as they're mostly older and used to skate bristo square back then.

The trick to no one caring how you skate at the park is to bring music so they think you're cool as fuck regardless.

I mainly skate at one of their ramps in his shed but i'm awful after stopping for about about 6/7 years, just got the fear to do anything, nevermind the lack of energy.

Scottishmark - can't think off the top of my head of a Sidewalk with Bristo on the cover. Ask on https://ukskateforum.co.uk/ - successor to the old sidewalk forum - someone will know

I used to skate everyday from age 14-26. Then it got a bit less in my late 20's & 30's. Started properly getting back into it a couple of years ago and stuff came back fairly easily but I have let it slip the last year. Just a few roll arounds the park with my son.

Nice that you got on the cover of Sidewalk Scottishmark. I remember getting the first issue.

Used to skate, Harrow, MK, Southbank a lot back in the day. Hopefully my boy will show more interest in it and that will get me back into it again.

Gotta say skateparks these days do my head in a bit, kids on scooters everywhere!!

Livi was fucking gnarly back in the day. When I used to skate it (before the recent extension) it was showing it's age. The half pipe had a crack in it that was inches long/deep and the big bowl coping was starting to fall to bits. The Livi locals seshed it like none of that mattered and it was fucking really cool to watch. I was super young but have some really dope vivid memories of the skate parties.

One year in particular it had been pissing it down all weekend so everyone was just getting baked/wrecked and it dried up at about 1am on Sunday morning and everyone came out and started shredding the park up in the middle of the night.

Not sure I'll know any of the Bristo lot. I was only 11-15 years old when I was really into it. I lived about 10 mins drive from Livi so my parents took me there but I only really went to Bristo square when the "Bristo jams" were on. A name I do remember was a guy called Bobby Bailey? I think he had an older brother who skated too. They came to Livi sometimes but I think they were both Edinburgh based. Bobby was certainly at the Bristo Jam I was talking about around 2002.

Fire me a PM with other names if you don't wanna name them on the forum!

Where are you? Perth? I skated the park there before and me and a (then) mate of mine Craig Stewart (who goes by "Benson" and still skates, in fact I think he's pro) came joint first at the Perth skate comp in the junior section. Post Covid - and once I can skate in a straight line - I'll take a trip up.

My old dear will no doubt have a copy kicking about. I've asked her. Will update!

Just to be clear I wasn't on the cover! I had my photo in an edition and that edition (I think) had a picture of Bristo square on the cover.

I wanted to go back to skating but was too embarrassed since I'm in my 30s now, surprised to hear how many here same age going back skating. Still undecided if I should buy another deck to skate around with, its alright just strolling but really want to pull off tricks but I don't think that be possible.

This is so dope. I've not watched a skate video in at least 10 years and nothing has changed attitude wise. Laughing out loud

The make on the tre flip step up out of the bank to lipslide on the quarter at 1.11.15 is huge (as is the slam at 1.11.09).

EDIT: As is the rest of Figgy's part. Had never heard of the dude 'till this video. Favourite section out of the lot. So much of what he did was massive.

Yeah I know Bobby bailey, n his brother Rikki. I'm from Kirkcaldy, like i said we've got a shit skateboard scene but our mate jan has a halfpipe in his shed which has had people from over all Scotland come check it out. Been some really good skateboarders come over since 2016 or so.

Only pictures I can really find of some of the older group.

Small fuckin’ world eh.

From what I remember Bobby was mostly a street skater and at the Livi skate party one year everyone was shredding the big bowl (which is like 13 foot or so) and Bobby wasn’t that comfortable doing that so he just skated up to the lip and flat bottomed the thing. Must have been a 2 foot ollie so a 15 foot drop in total. No one really knew what to make of it other than it was pretty fucking hectic. Laughing out loud

Half pipe in a shed eh. Sounds awesome. Cool
