My relatives have a flat on Sodermalm, best island for shopping IMO. Pancho and Lefty, Nitty Gritty, Our Legacy on there. Also Benny from ABBA has a hotel/bar/cafe thing in an old art deco cinema on the island which does great Kanelbullars! Welcome store and Caliroots are in the other side of Gamla Stan on Ostermalm, where the food market is, one of the best places to go in the city. The Vassa I think is well worth a visit if you want a bit of culture. Gamla Stan I heard is improving and becoming less touristy, couple of high end restaurants there if you want that sort of thing.
