Chrome Hearts have a nice chunky build quality, very very solid but have you tried wearing one for more than 5 minutes. So heavy and ultimately uncomfortable. Plus most designs will have people thinking you raided the Ed Hardy knock off rack at the local biker fest.

I think CARTIER is the one. Made in France and, if i'm not mistaken, everything is made in house. Top of the tree are the C-décor exotic bubinga woods and buffalo horns but we are talking big money. They do some nice work with Tulip wood and carbon fibre also. The wire frames are also beautifully made, very solid and give many years of service. Acetate frames start from 300 and again are lovely.

Some of the high end FRED glasses also are quite exquisite. Made in Italy though and not sure if in-house.

Have heard some good things about ZILLI also and like the optical designs but haven't seen them in person. Again made in Italy but slightly above JMM pricing.

Hi Andy,

Was wondering if you could help me with a Sunglasses issue? I have a pair of Rayban Clubmasters and the whole hinge has separated from the from of the glasses, on the right hand side. It's not broke but I think the adhesive that they used to fix it in place has worn off. The bit I'm talking is where the joint of the hinge slots into the frame of the glasses via two little prongs/protruding brass bits on the frame.

Can I fix this myself or would I be better sending it off to a repairer?

Thanks,
Bails

ZILLI

Yeah, a lot of Chrome Hearts frames are heavy. Cartier are proper quality. Not made in-house though, it's all out-sourced to smallish factories (although they don't shout about it). Fred are made by Marcolin and LMVH's Thélios joint operation. I don't know much about Zilli but they've looked well-made whenever I've seen them.

Bails, I've sent you a PM.

Will post in Last purchase thread too, but just got the Fellini's back from being altered. I think they have done a great job. Took some pics along with the other two pairs I bought recently.

Jax in Havana 3
Fellini in Dark Havana
Seberg in Shade of Pale

Hanto- is the lens in any of your lovely JMM collection the LT GREY CR39 featured in the Dealan Squarzi Charcoal edition? When I see pics of Alessandro wearing these glasses they are tinted in the sunlight but when he wears them inside they look pretty clear. Doubt he has a transition lens in them. Was just wondering if they come off the shelf like that.

Fraid not, the frames I have have the following lenses.

Jules - Vintage Green CR39
Jax - Light Bronze
Fellini - Olive CR39
Seberg - Bronze CR39

I have tried the Jagger, Reynold and Zepeherin as well if you want any help.

Can someone recommend some brands I should be looking at for a new pair of sunglasses? Looking to spend £100-£150. Thanks. xx

Just spend out mate, get the ones you want. They cover half your face when you're wearing them and from experience, you won't regret it. Expensive shades have much more scope for being repaired or recrafted too.

A friend of mine designed them, so yes. Laughing out loud

You can't get better quality than Cubitts for retro-style frames in your price bracket in my opinion. Black Eyewear also work a look (slightly over your budget) but I've never seen them in the flesh so can't comment on the quality.
