A lens size of 45 isn't comically small, it's pretty typical for retro styles like that. The overall width of the frame is what's important and in the case of retro styles like Lesca that is made up in the bridge width, width of the rims and length of the endpieces.

Séamus at The Optical Workshop is happy to put lenses in frames bought elsewhere.

Ah that makes sense, cheers Andy! I was pretty sure the small lens won’t work with my giant block head tho so never ordered a pair… would it be worth just adding my current frames measurements to get the total width and compare it that way instead?

It can be slightly tricky to compare as endpiece widths can vary quite a bit depending on the style. You'd be better off asking the retailer the overall width and then comparing that with the overall width of frames that fit you (although some people aren't always so accurate when measuring….).

Actually this site has total widths listed for some of the models.

So to use this frame as an example the bridge is 24mm and the lens width 45mm so 24 + 45 + 45 = 114mm. The overall width is listed as 135mm so 135 - 114 = 21mm, 21 divided by 2 gives you an endpiece width of 10.5mm which sounds about right for that kind of style.

If you can't find the overall width for the particular frame you like then you could always as a rough guide just add the 21mm from the model above to the bridge and 2 x lens measurements to give you an idea if it's likely to be of a size that might fit you.

I've got a pair of Lescas bought in Paris. Love the shape and size (I've got a small head). Will post a pic up when I get back home

I’ve got a wee pea head and always find specs too big. The arms in particular too long. Are Lecas likely to be a bit smaller for my toddler sized head? Laughing out loud Cry

The arms (temples, to use the technical term) can usually be bent at an earlier point by an optician so that they fit better (they'll be a bit longer behind your ear though).

Not all Lesca frames are small but some of them are (a quick look on the site I linked above shows the Henri is 129mm wide which is pretty small). Cubitts now do a small version of some of their more popular models if that's of interest.

For guidance 128mm is usually as small as most adult frames go, and usually women's styles. 134mm is probably considered average for a men's frame and anything from 138mm upwards is considered large. You very rarely get bigger than 144mm.

With overall widths you also need to consider the material thickness. The thicker the temples are the less space there is between the temples for your head. So a 134mm wide frame with thin metal temples will fit bigger than a 134mm wide acetate frame with chunky temples. And just to confuse matters slightly some frames have temples that curve out as they go back towards your ear while others go more or less straight back.

I appreciate not every style will work with someone's face, but what's people's pick for best Jacque Marie Mage. Like the look of the Fellini and there's a nice dark transparent Molino on End.

Does depend on face type.

Safest are probably Fitzgeralds, maybe Molino or Torino. Most popular would be the Dealan.

I have the Jax, Fellini, Jules, Dealan, Seberg and Scarpa.

I can send you a code for Thread if want to look at their stock to get 20% off. Will be about the cheapest place to get JMM in the UK.

Best bet is to check the Styleforum thread for JMM. It's very active.

Not bad but the pair I had made JMM beta titanium frames feel heavy. Felt way too delicate for me. But they are nice framss.

Look for the 7285 frames

I had one pair before last year, then bought another. Then bought five more. Laughing out loud

I have the Dealan's in Sand, but have eyed up the noir pair's as well. Get yourself in the JMM thread on Styleforum; definitely one of the most active threads on the forum and there are a few guys who go through JMM frames like water. If you want to live out your shopping habits through others!
