How does something like that become a family motto? Some kind of dying-breath chinese whispers thing? "Son…come close, listen…my time is nearly done…(deathly cough) but I want you to carry something with you for the rest of your life, like I did with mine…sneaky…is…(last gasp) bes…t"

I have a lot but something that I have built up over the years and represent parts of my life or relevance.
There was a big explosion of tattooing which is still around to this day and the attitude towards them has gone full circle, I remember when I had to wear long sleeves for work to cover up. i understand where those are coming from about the fashionists getting sleeves perhaps not even thinking about it but if they are happy then so be it, just these type of folk will imo live to regret if they cant relate or there is no relevance to their body art. But thats my perspective on tattoos, you got them as they mean't something.
Think its slowly dying down slightly especially among younger folk. It has a very strong influence from music these days too.

Fair play to you sneaky, that is some bullshit motto but at least you are telling the truth.

not one to make stuff up, guess the point of a family motto is that it has resonance and meaning to the members of the family, doesnt neccesarily have to have meaning for others
