Anyone else have that Opal machine? Looking to upgrade mine too.

Yeah I’ve got the Opal. It’s pretty good compared to an old nespresso machine. Just don’t use the combustible pods from Grind in it as they mangle and get stuck. Shredded my fingers trying to sort that out Laughing out loud

Just got this - serious upgrade for me as I usually just use an aeropress. I do however need a grinder to get the most out of it. It will need to be a hand grinder as want to save counter space. I had my eye on a feld47 but seem impossible to buy. Any alternative recommendations?

You want to save counter space but buy that Laughing out loud

Hand grinders take so long to use. I can’t believe that people actually use them day-to-day

Mate you cannot even get 20% of the flavour from that machine with a hand grinder.

You need a very good quality commercial grade bean grinder to allow you to extract oils in a way that will show you the capability of the machine.

Otherwise in FUK terms you’ve just asked which primark jacket would look best with some Visvim denim, none mate , none .

Hand grinding is simply not suitable for espresso coffee as you cannot dial in the required consistency accurately unless you have a really good grinder with micro alterations in the grind .

In terms of getting flavour from your coffee beans the grinder is actually way more important than the machine so a machine that costs a quarter of yours with a good grinder will give you much much better coffee than your machine with a hand grinder.

You should be spending 300-600 minimum on a substantial grinder to work in tandem with that machine and the results will be as good as anything professionally made.

Damn was hoping that wouldn’t the case… quite a few online sources suggested a good hand grinder might be suitable. Got my coffee shop to grind yesterday’s coffee and it turned out amazing but obviously won’t be great after a day or so. Suggestions for a machine grinder with a tiny footprint?

Try it with a genuinely open mind and I´d be interested to know if you still think this is true (spoiler - I don´t think it is)

Kettle is good, I have a Brewista which is just as good, little cheaper and doesn't look as good though.

Just based on experience i do feel like it’s received wisdom. Certainly for me not enough to shell out a few hundo on a good grinder if the local shop has an ek43 or similar.

Any shouts on brands that do nice but not crazy expensive coffee cups and saucers? Want to get 2 latte size and 2 smaller flat white size for our new espresso machine
