Just watched episode 1 of Succession, pretty wank. Is it really worth sticking with?

Yes. I thought the same and didn't go back to it for ages but glad I did. Picks up the pace pretty fast.

To be fair I can see how Succession would go over the heads of the attention deficit shooty bang crew.

succession is one of the best tv series i have ever seen. jesse armstrong is a genius for creating it alongside the thick of it, peep show etc.

as snaye said - although the plot is quite simple, i can imagine the humour going over the heads of people who prefer gogglebox/mrs browns boys etc.

Think Succession is so great because it's one of the few shows that nails drama and comedy.

There have been so may comedy shows that dip their toes into more serious tone stuff and I always find it really disingenuous - like it's run out of jokes so let's do something about mental health etc. The streaming sites in particular have been really pushing this type of content, and can be especially cloying when it's a show focused on a main lead like Louis, Master of None, Dave, Atlanta, Brassic, etc.

I think we'll look back on a lot of it with the same eye-roll that we did with the 90s and 2000s style 'a very special episode' where a sitcom would take a detour into a PSA about drugs or crime or whatever.

Anyone watching Dave Season 2? Halfway through, and not enjoying at much as S1. Hopefully the finale will hold up against the S1 finale

Series 2 of Dave seems quite hectic. Always some agro going on or tension which makes it harder to watch. It's still well written/produced. The Rick Rubin episode was particularly clever I thought.

Still some good subtle comedy in there but not as much as series 1.

Really bounced off of Dave season 2 I think by the fourth episode, just don't care about any of the characters, no longer funny imo.

Good point this, they all just seem a bit whingey and stressed out (no YLAup) which makes it harder to buy into them.

Yeah, just reading the episode blurbs, I thought that one would be about Rubin's studio. Just finished the Dating episode. I'll end up sticking it out, I was hoping it would lighten up a bit.

Did a binge watch of 'Love Life' on iPlayer. Unexpectedly enjoyed it, a realistic portrayal of dating in big cities. Characters are lovable/hateable at the same time
