Sounds like people are still using newsgroups? Is it any good still, I scrapped it all due to the content disappearing. I was using binsearch. Worth looking into again? I primarily use xbmc which has mainly everything

Usenet servers based in The Netherlands are untouchable.

US ones are awful on the other hand, DMCA notices all over the place.

Still working fine. Some content is harder to get on Usenet though - especially HBO shows, which get taken down very quickly after they're online (within a day). Key is to automatically download those shows with tools like Sickbeard and you're good to go.

Still happens from time to time, but with the right tools/services you can avoid that for most cases.

Took me a while to read into and set it up, but now have download box running Sickbeard for shows, Couchpotato for movies, SabNZB+ to download, plus I subscribed to NZBGeek & OzNZB for indexing. As newsgroup provider I use Sunny Usenet (in NL) plus a few backup ones (pay per use rather than fixed fees).
Now that it's all set up, it works awesome - I just subscribe to TV shows or put movies on my wanted list and they will instantly download once they're available. Even get iPhone notification when a new show is downloaded.

My dad just got one of those xmbc boxes, plugged in his USB hard drive and can't get it to "show up" - this is what he said on the phone. I have no idea, anyone know how these things work?

Cheers

astraweb unset got a crazy deal, $15 every 2 months for unlimited bandwidth. I'm about to cancel my current set up and get that.

Wouldn't bother with Astraweb, or any other US server. Stuff gets taken down pretty much straight away. Better off with one based in the Netherlands like Tweaknews.

They use external indexer sites, you can choose which one(s), using the API keys. Sickbeard also has it's own index but better to use an external one for better results. It really works well, subscribe to TV show or put movie on wanted list, select quality (SD, HD - or CAM for movies) and the moment it's available it will download it right away.

I'm using Sunny Usenet as main server (in NL) - check them out: http://en.sunnyusenet.com/
Cheaper than Astra even

I've been using a astraweb with no problems at all. Although my nzb site has recently just died. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good nzb indexer plz?

In the past I was with Astraweb (for about 4+ years) and started finding all the big movie releases and latest TV shows (no ban) like The Big Bang Theory would be gone within 24 hours of it being put up. It was pretty frustrating, so I decided to switch. I've had zero problems since being with a Dutch server.

PM me your email address and I'll send you a Newztown.co.za invite. I use that and Binsearch.info

Here are a couple of good guides to Usenet servers:

http://www.ngprovider.com/newsgroup-resellers.php
(scroll down for map)

http://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers

While the latter is incomplete it does show the big providers and whether they operate an automatic DMCA takedown.
