I've said this since day one, a guy that used to train at a gym I trained at, Dave Hill, fought mcgregor about 10 years ago for a cage warriors belt and Mcgregor got inside his head then and basically beat him mentally before the fight even started, and he's been doing it ever since.
I think for most opponents its a shock as MMA, Muay Thai etc are extremely respectful sports, you slug it out and then hug it out at the end, the level of respect most have for others that also train in the same sports is immense. On the flip side is mcgregor who is disrespectful and cocky, most fighters wouldn't have experienced that to the level McGregor takes it and imo that really gets inside people heads, it ruins their fight plan, it forces them to make mistakes, it creates doubt.
There is no doubt mcgregor is talented, but had it not been for Dana promoting him and generally being onside with his bullshit because it sells, he would have never got as far as he has.

Probs controversial opinion but Conor was never world class - caught Aldo cold with a great shot then lost as many fights as he won before losing again at the weekend. Best in the game at hyping a fight up and a very decent fighter but nowhere near the goats

Brilliant event at the weekend. Some great finishes, Paul Craig especially.
Watched it with my son who’s 5 at the end of the month. CSB: his Mum’s cousin is a current pro boxer and ex IBF world champion, so he’s been in to boxing from a young age, 2-3. He has a little set of gloves, speed ball, punch bag etc, has a proper good dig on him. He starts his first session at the gym tomorrow where said cousin’s Dad runs. As we were watching he says, “why are they kicking Dad?”. So I explain it all to him and his eyes are lighting up and constantly wants to now batter me playing “Mixed Martial Arts”
