trainers have to be one of the biggest staple items of recent history to dissapear as much as they have. does anyone actually wear them anymore?
do you think it had anything to do with when hipsters started wearing nb's cos the japs did, was that one of the final nails in the coffin of the sports shoe worn in everyday life by normal members of the public?

The demise of the casually worn trainer must go down somewhat to just how trends work I suppose, but there are plenty of other attributing factors.
The huge amount garishly shit colourways of recent years haven't helped, the ever declining quality standards (take the recent Jordans for example) have put me off hugely (haven't bought a pair of Nikes for 5 years atleast), the sheer number of poorly assembled and un-inspiring hype collaborations have diluted that side of things, plimsolls seem to have changed peoples perceptions of what trainers to wear in recent years and all the shit stuff is too easy to get and all the good stuff too hard to come by.
I think above all else the releases aren't as good now, if you mapped what came out in 2011 against 2005 it's probably quite clear why no-one is interested anymore.

I think another thing with trainers was the fact that a lot of the heads just older and became less interested (grew out of it?). That's what happened with me, I used to be well into them, was on CT everyday, had around 80 odd pairs at my peak but then it kind of just fizzled out. It didn't help that I had to be more smartly dressed for work and so trainers became something I would wear at the weekend/ evenings and I found I would just be going to the same few pairs each time. People change…
There was also a bit of overkill in that whole arena too, once people started clocking on that it was 'cool' to be into trainers, the collectors/ wearers got trageted hard with average release after average release, all in 'limited editions' and 'exclusive make-ups' and amazing new collaborations- it lost it's exclusivity and excitement.
