Yeah back in the day, I swear Limited Edition is what it stood for. At least that's what most people thought.

I thought LE just meant leather? The le on those wildwoods would suggest quick strike or hyper, would seem odd to label them le then make them a gr

I'm pretty sure LE stands for Limited Edition. I've seen Foamposite boxes with LE on them, and the only bit of leather they have is some suede around the lace eyelets, and I'm reasonably sure I recall seeing LE on old Presto boxes too, which have no leather at all. I also have a pair of 90s from 2003 which has Air Max 90 Leather written on the box, and that's around the time when you used to see the LE abbreviation lot more.
