Worth pulling the trigger? And what shall I look out for? Will be buying privately from the blokes house, so will be going back if anything happens, but how do I distinguish the authenticity and that it's got the correct parts inside etc?

Telephone the RSC where it was serviced to authenticate that it was serviced. If they've been at it then it should be in good shape or alternatively arrange to pop in and have it checked or meet him there?

Cheers Dee, have contacted the dealer where it was last serviced, they wouldn't tell me over the phone so I've had to email them and wait for a reply. Was serviced just under a year ago now and watch looks mint.
Hoping they come back with good news and I'll go and buy it.

Rolex Sub Hulk
Rolex GMT Master II BLNR
Rolex Datejust
Omega Speedmaster Original
Omega Speedmaster CK2998
JLC Grande Reverso Calender
JLC Master Geographic
Hamilton Pan Europ

Always looking to add though.

Just copied the blurb from ABTW:

Launched today for iOS and Android, Watch Essentials is an educational smartphone app by the Swiss Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. It is designed to bring newcomers to the horological world, as well as seasoned sales people, up to speed by helping them find out more about the basics and, later on, the intricacies of watch terminology, features, history, and other related topics. The app is free and has a playful element where as you make progress you can earn watch components to build your own virtual watch… and, better still, the first 1,000 people to complete the app will have the chance to take the HH Certification test for free to officially validate their newfound knowledge.

for those with slightly larger wrists, the Bulova Moonwatch is on amazon currently for just yunder £300 - great value for money (even if it is a quartz)

What are peoples thoughts re Timex Archive as a cheap watch?

Quite tempted by this one:

Carrying on from above, the dealer would not give any info regarding the watch so I've left that one now.
Regarding all the different reference numbers, is there one which is better than others? Have seen some with quickset dates and other bits etc.

The 422 is a connoisseurs choice no doubt, however the 423 is also one of the best but for the minimilast look the 557 is hard to beat.

Yeah thats the left handed version which is slightly rarer, but left or right I think its a watch which won't age.
