Fully agree its all social media hype and marketing.
Yeah that's the point though, if you manage to get a SS daytona at retail (or anything else with waiting lists), you could wear it for years and still move it on for a profit.
AP is probably a bad example because the entry price is so much higher, plus there’s so much hype & waiting lists around the Royal Oak now.

Ive got a few Rolex but never been to Marbella or Dubai but then again I’m not an “influencer”/ social media persona.
The entry price may be higher, but its hardly comparable to a sub, I would say the RO is more like the daytona or the skydweller and when the 15400 was released about 8 years ago the retail price was about $15000 or £13k, so not massively dissimilar to the pricing on the daytona or SD.
Agreed there is much hype around the RO now, but 5+ years ago it wasn't like that, I wore a 15400 as a daily for about 3 years from 2015 and in that time I had one person recognise and comment on it. A carpenter that was doing some work for me, apart from that im sure most people thought I was wearing some obscure cheap watch, had I been wearing a rolex it would have ben far more recognised.

The majority of people who seem to dislike Rolex - don’t actually own one.

Nothing wrong with disliking the divisiveness that comes with the brand, whilst still appreciating the quality of the pieces.
Tudor and Omega come very very close for less than half the price and you don't get caught up with the histrionics that Rolex causes.
Great watches. Would love an Omega next.
