Back to watches …
I won't be in the market for a new watch for a long time but if I was I'd be looking at this:
Zenith was 'El Primero' at announcing the first automatic chronograph to the world but three watches that announced their automatic chronos in the same year (1969) managed to distribute theirs to stores first.
They were Breitling, Hamilton and Heuer all under the guise of the Büren group who used the caliber 11 movement.
The history of the first automatic chronograph is quite complex as Seiko even announced their first automatic chrono a couple of months before Zeniths, but it wasn't regarded an official announcement as was done solely for the Japanese market.
Steve McQueens Tag Heuer Monaco with caliber 11 movement he wore in Le Mans fetched recently for $2.2million at auction.
An iconic piece.
