Fraser looks nice. Clean Veilance style look in a more mainline fit

Fraser looks nice, bit sceptical of gore-tex infinium though, might go for the sawyer

I bought then backed a Sawyer which I regret. Needed money at the time.

It's very very nice. Dunno why you would bother with a similar Veilance.

Don't remember the Fraser being Gore-Tex Infinium when I did my research a few months ago

Recommendations for a good goretex shell? I’m leaning towards the veilance arris but wondered if anyone else could recommend anything?

Infinium's not waterproof, it's water-resistant. I've got 2 Infinium running jackets, both excellent at what they do, but they won't keep me dry in a proper downpour. Have got an Arcteryx Beta AR with Gore-Tex Pro that's kept me dry after a couple of hours in torrential rain.

Are the zips waterproof or water resistant on the beta ar?

generally the difference between infinitum and gore tex main is simply its not made in a gore tex factory and its not taped using gore tex seam tape which can only be done at a gore tex factory, the gore tex textiles are often same as used on a gore tex jacket, the difference is simply gore tex does not guarantee waterproof on infinium.

the textiles tend to wet out on the face fabric more now days as they are using more eco conscious dwr treatments than in past (this has nothing to do with water proof or gore tex) but when the face fabric wets out on a shell particularly it can give the sensation of wet as it will be colder to touch.

Cheers all, ended up going for this arcteryx partition in black from grailed, got it for $350 which seemed alright for the spec. Still on the hunt for a shorter gtx jacket but think it'll be good to have one with a bit of length that can be worn in more occasions!

Having a little laugh to myself thinking about the tirade milspex would go on upon hearing about this. Trump was upset about toilet flushes, shower pressure strength and hairspray not being strong enough. Wonder what he'd think about gore-tex.

I have the Veilance Conduit, I think flasket does too, which is quite good for layering surprisingly and is easy to throw on with the side zip.
Yeah I agree, it's not nearly as slim fitting as people make it out to be. The face fabric might be a little thin/fragile for heavy use. Then again maybe not as it feels quite similar to the one on my insulated shell that has ben scraped against rock and concrete many a time over the last ten years and it's still in marvelous shape.
To think I was sweating not having the burly n100d fabric of the alpha sv in choosing the beta sv with n80p fabric Roll Eyes
