ours was 91%, which is the second highest of the WC so far - behind italy

Exactly second best

Stats can only tell you so much, actual performance and how effective those passes are what count. You can dress up the shittest teams to be half-decent with stats. Only one stat matters in the end.

Agreed, Plays with Cahill on the regs

he's such a cunt that everyone blatantly despises him - rather leave him at home and have a squad with no divisions.

also why would you play cahill, jagielka & baines throughout the qualifiers - conceding 4 goals in 10 games - then fuck them off for the tournament?!

Cole barely played all season, no way he should have gone.

Wheres smith? He will be optimistic and say we will win the next two game ten nil. Cool

English FA dont care making millions, will most probably blame foreigners in Prem again.

Still time to turn it, but Thurs do or die now.

Razor they calling for Wayne to play number 10 or 9 role.

For me, until England revert to English playing style e.g. getting ball to wings, crosses, working channels, hard tackeles etc wont get pass a 2nd round for a good while.

Would be silly to drop him as he has an assist. CV is good although not best at WC.

Calls for Rooney to be dropped are ridiculous.

As was said on the previous page, he's not the marauding showboater of 10 years ago and hasn't been for years. But, he sprayed some great balls about with pin point accuracy, set up England's goal with a good cross, and wrong footed the Italian keeper coming within inches of an equaliser.

Exposing Baines too often aside, I thought the interchanging up front/out wide worked quite well

Agree in sorts but it was hardly exposing Baines too often, it was every single time Italy went forward. Every Italian attack, including both goals, came from that right hand side where Rooney was constantly out of position and not tracking back. The way they passed the ball through our entire midfield every single time is worrying and just shouldn't happen.

Bloody hell, that really is looking at the glass half full.
Everyone else saw that as a dog shit miss, a true reflection of his fallen status. Mario gets one chance and scores. Wayne has his one chance, snaps at the shot and fucks up… Again.
The difference between world class players.

managers fault cos he shouldnt be played there, would sturridge or the liverpool new boy ne able to do that job? Why do we expect rooney to?
Hes englands best striker but cos hes so good an all round player, he doesnt get the chance to just play in his true position for club or country.

I never take Shearar's opinion too seriously. Says the obvious but doesn't look under the surface.

He was just ranting the same shit over and over.

England played a good match overall imo. Probably one of the best in big tournaments in a while.
Forwards were all good, playing them has been a smart move as they were all quicker than our defenders and put a lot of pressure on us until they had energy. The lack of a striker is what you missed most imo in our half of the pitch.
England midfield is what impressed me in a bad way. Gerrard and Henderson left too much space and time to ours, which were perfectly balanced amongst technical players, Verratti and Pirlo, and runners, Candreva and Marchisio. Leaving time to the former, the latter could run and be served already behind your two midfielders, basically eliminating your shield in front of the defense. Pirlo and Verratti should have been put a lot more under pressure, but good for us!
Defense played a god match too. I'd blame Cahill on our second goal as he completely lost Balotelli. Baines better than Johnson but on the second goal is a bit guilty as well. Jagielka did the job.
A good match overall, heat probably killed it, with you hit more than us.

Oh and if only Balotelli would have scored with that shoot from the left side saved but Jagielka…Ubercool
And that free kick too Ubercool
