Bloody hell, that really is looking at the glass half full.
Everyone else saw that as a dog shit miss, a true reflection of his fallen status. Mario gets one chance and scores. Wayne has his one chance, snaps at the shot and fucks up… Again.
The difference between world class players.
bit harsh man, could mario play a cross like rooney did?

Could Rooney make a save like Buffon? Doesn't matter about positions/roles, only thing that does is that on the world stage, at the most important moment, Rooney yet again can't perform.
Mario, yet again can.

Sterling was the killer pass/class in that move anyway. Standard cross from Rooney.

Anto Costa Rica wont be easy, but nice win, you guys seem to have another 2-3 gears in you.

Defence did well in 2nd half to stop having joy on that right side.

Mistake. Cosco cosco. Play rooney in marios position and he would outscore him imho. Take the 'if it aint arsenal its shit' blinkers off mayng,

Hate to say it but Rio talked a lot of sense on the Rooney subject on MotD early yesterday - basically, play him in his preferred role(s) 9 or 10. He (Rooney) has obviously spoken to his club teammates about his displeasure when being played out of position for England and although he didn't actually allude to that, it was obvious that Ferdinand's comments were not purely based on analysis and personal opinion.

Trying to fit him into the formation based on reputation isn't working.

If we are talking about out scoring and arsenal, all I know is bendtner has more World Cup goals than Wayne Rooney.
Wake up and smell the coffee bro.
He ain't got it no more.

Nobodys better than him anywhere else on the pitch though, hence he always gets played. I would drop him rather than play him out of position, but that would be stupid, cos the answer is to play him as a striker and drop sturridge imho.

Im really not a fanboy, but he is quality and English football has fucked him, not his desire or loss of talent. He should of fucked off three years ago.

@themistake - I get what you're saying but for me it was a harder chance than it looked. Anyone could just try and hit the target but he's wrapped his foot around the ball to make it look like he's going to shoot one way while trying to tuck it in the bottom corner. Defender in front of him made it difficult too.

That Rooney chance was all it was though, "a chance". The way people are talking as if it was a sitter from 4 yards, which Balotellis' was.

The fact is he's the only player in the squad who never gives the ball away, played some decent passes and set up the goal but he's being played out of position and it's down to Hodgson to sort that.

Funny how every pundit 2 years ago was saying he is a natural number 10 and that's where he has always wanted to play.
Now he's a striker again.

He starts every game IMO but that's only because Barkley is the most inconsistent player in the league.

Ive always seen him as a striker, come back to me when a gooner or mario scores a volley from the halfway line. Smiling

I would have pulled Rooney off at half time, sturridge had scored so wouldn't have pulled him. Sterling was causing them problems so wouldn't have pulled him either. If Rooney was asked to do a job and play out left but either couldn't do it or wasn't happy to do it, then I would have stuck Milner on who would do that job all day long. I hate Milner but at least he's disciplined enough to do the job.

I agree, but what makes me laugh is people say play all the young ones - Barkley, Shaw, Wilshere, Lallana, Sterling from the start. They can't have 10 full caps between them and would get murdered at this level. Especially Barkley and Wilshere constantly running at 2 or 3 players and losing the ball.

Can I ask a question? Why, in every fucking advert featuring the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Aguero, RVP among others, does Rooney appear? He's good, but I think people look at him in the same ballpark as the others mentioned? So, in a big tournament, like say, the World Cup, we all look to him to steal a game, or knock a few in for fun.. when will we realise he's an extremely over rated player who plays better for club than country, with an insane amount of pressure on him to perfom, when really, he's not all that.

The result lastnight was a tad 'cruel' like Henderson said. I thought we were bright, quick and fun to watch at times. Light years away from how we looked in the last World Cup.
