Thinking about getting one rather than waiting for PS3, can you use the hard drive to record tv?

Cheers

don't do it man, i'm no fanboy of anything but Xbox is not for grown men, its for 14 year old nu-metallers, Sony and Nintendo will cater for the adult much better than microsoft.

thats what i was thinking, until i realised that PS3 has been designed to last for about 10 years, where as Xbox is probably only gonna last half that.

The life cycle for any console is supposed to be around 5 or 6 years before the next gen kicks in

360 life cycle will definitely be shorter than ps3, many games producers like konami have stopped making games for the og xbox anyway.. granted they are japanese companies, but they do make most of the best games.
however, the 360 has gears of war right now and that is definitely not for kids, best game i've ever played.

not much diff between the two to be honest. just a bunch of marketing bs. and to say the 360 is for kids and the nintendo is for adults is fucking ridiculous

You sir, talk out of your behind.

The Playstation 3 has games (and in development) that are exactly the same type of games that are on the 360. Not to mention that most of the titles are also cross-platform ones… which looking at most of the current independent reviews are actually running better on the 360 (Tony Hawks, Ridge Racer etc).

The only console that is different is the Wii. They are marketing it at people who don't even play games and the emphasis is on the new controller.

Yes the PS3 has a more powerful processor, but it has a drawback in its ram and graphics chip. The 360 has a more powerful graphics chip and better memory. You also have to factor in that the PS3 is hard to develop for, where as the 360 is a lot easier with its DX base. It's alreading leading to developers jumping ship and seeing that they need their games to sell. Sony already lost most of its exclusives now, such as Grand Theft Auto. The end of it is that there is very little difference between them. People who hold out for the PS3 on the basis that it will be more powerful than anything they have ever seen will be sadly dissapointed, just look at the reviews in America for evidence of that.

All I'm trying to say is that next generation is here right now with the 360 and the Wii for a new type of gaming experience on Friday. Waiting for the PS3 is only kidding yourself.

surely its impossible to guess the life cycle of something like that? just needs a new bit of technology (like bluray) to come out and they'll design a new one

i have an xbox 360 and it is good but i think the xbox will allways be for the first person shoot em up fans, nintendo will allways be the platform and cartoon lovers console of choice and sony just seem to be between the two but excel at neither.

He makes good points, but he needs to chill!

Who really gives a shit…just buy the console that you like the games for. I got a 360 cos i like dead rising, im getting a wii cos i like zelda, and i'll prob get a PS3 if MGS4 is any good. They're all for fucking kids, they're toys! Anyone who makes out they're some kind of lifestyle entertainment device are kidding themselves. Don't take it all so seriously…

true gamers know that the xbox will never be fully appreciated.. simply because their controllers are horse shit. the first gen xbox controller was built for andre the giant, the s controller was an improvement, and the new 360 controller is ok, except for the shoulder buttons are still shit.

the ps2 controller is perfect, and pro evo on that cannot be beaten for a multi player experience. the new ps3 controller looks like it will continue this trend… and saying they havent got any ps2 only title or launch titles with credibility is bull crap.. have you seen armoured core (or something like that), ff7, killzone, mgs4, tekken … all launch titles, the 360 has been out a year and only now i bought it.. simply because there was no killer title.

and am i the only one who reads funky's posts and think they sound like a 10 year old wrote them?

i have an xbox 360 and it is good

saying they're for kids is like saying books are just for people in glasses, films are just for men or the internet is just for nigerians.
