i just worked in an accountants for a few odd hours per week and full time over the summer break, didn't make an amazing amount but it paid for food, drink and goods (clothes and stuff), but i wasn't buying mega expensive clothes back then. Its how i got stuck on my £100 per week budget i tend to try to stick to now (for food and drink only!)

£100 a week for food/drink is a ridiculous amount unless youre including alcohol/restaurants in that tbh

Looks like I'm getting an offer from Manchester tonight but I'm still fretting about where to live. I kinda wanna get a flat with one of my mates who lives up there (at home atm) but it's obviously so hard to find a flat without being able to view them and I'm probably going to have to get up there this weekend, so it's all really rushed. It might just be easier to go in halls but I'm still unsure on which ones to go for…

Getting a decent flat might take you a couple of weeks realistically. The Medlock halls would be a decent shout imo and will probably work out similar price to renting your own flat once bills are taken into account. Only problem is you'll probably be living with a load of 'crazee' freshers that probably won't have the same workload you have, be alright if you're a disciplined chap though.

If I remember rightly Daisy bank halls were popular with foreign students when I visited, my friends flat mates didn't really speak much english (no Daily Mail) this was 5 years ago though, might have changed.

Sign up for one term in halls if this is possible or get on Gumtree and arrange viewings this weekend for short term lets then arrange a flat with your mate to start from January onwards? Loads of 1 and 2 bed flats are empty at the moment so make a cheeky offer on the rent, ours was dropped by £100 a month from the advertised rent.

Cheers for the advice, it's all so rushed I'm not realy thinking, he has a full-time job anyway, so I'll be in the flat on my bill most of the time…I never really thought of that, maybe it's not such a great plan. Thats a good idea though cracka, I'll have to speak to him. If I do end up going to halls though I guess it's going to be Metlock.

granted thats some cringe worth promo blurb, but the moda nights are some of the best i ever went too, erol alkan in a 200 capacity club etc etc

the big engine shed gigs are pure student neon leg warmer wearing fodder but the actual club nights in the cell are amazing

Yay, they offered me a place!

I've got the choice of three flats - one with 6 other first years, one with 3 others and one with just one other postgrad. I'd be stupid not to take the postgrad room wouldn't I?

Done and done.

There's no way I would live with first years again. My flatmate is a 21 year old female doing an MSC.

how is everyone getting on?

first full day here, got my internet sorted finally. last night was a good night, almost got my phone nicked and shanked by four black men. some cunt bird tipped my hat backwards, joking around, and it fell in the river.. had to get my mate to hold my ankles and lower me over the side.

the shower is amazing, if you wanted you could shower shit and shave, all at the same time.
