Shame I'm not a prodigy or you'd be great. Don't suppose LSE would even laugh down the phone to me before hanging up really, unless you know of anyone who's transferred with sub par A-Levels?

How I'd love to study at LSE, but they don't really take people like me, when there are hundreds of you; people with 4 A's.

Did your mate just call them up? Any further info, what time of year, who'd he call, what did he have to do post calling? Just anything really.

Appreciate it.

Surely it'd be better for you to just act big fish in small pond, and devote the extra time (if you think you're too good for your course, then you must be rolling in it) trying to get some good work experience/internships?

Why on earth should the attitude of your peers matter anyway, unless you are doing group work? If you're in first year, don't worry most people act like pricks and then settle down the following year and actually apply themselves.

Has anyone got into the uni they applied for through UCAS through clearing after being rejected initially?

Anyone studied in Denmark? I'm looking to do a masters at Copenhagen Business School, but first wondered if anyone could highlight the main differences in culture (socially and in a studying context) between that and a UK undergrad.

anyone got any advice to help me decide between the two?

Manchester has the better rep but definitely a case of where you would prefer to study for the next 5 years.

yep, both courses are pretty similar - both PBL but barts uses it slightly less. manchester apparently had a poor pbl curriculum and they're having to change it for the year im joining to bring back a better scientific grounding (through another form of pbl though).

so many different things to consider, in terms of job prospects some people are saying go to manchester cause i'll get to know a lot more staff in hospitals (think this is a bit dumb) and get one on one teaching since theres plenty of big teaching hospitals/ high staff to student ratio in manchester (but theres a lot more med students and they take on St Andrews students too). manchester also has old style cadaveric dissection, loads of student facilities and the city's ok too.

barts and the royal london trust are undergoing massive hospital regeneration though and will be done when i graduate. plus the area is more challenging and you get to see a wide range of things. problem is after foundation training when i graduate i'd be competing against imperial, ucl etc, the oxbridge students who do their clinical training in london and anyone who wants to be in the city - meaning it's gonna be hard to stay/ have some continuity.

theres the olympics coming up, its less of a studenty med school (they take quite a lot of graduates), smaller year group and being in london would be good. i think the course is more carefully structured which i'd prefer (you repeat everything three times over the 5 years, curriculum structured around body systems)

other than that i need to consider cost, location and the rest of the uni (QM vs UoM). think the best thing is just to go back and check the areas out in person. it seems like manchester would be the better choice but in the back of my mind i want barts.

Where are the residencies for manchester? Got a friend at Nottingham and the residencies are in like: Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield and one or two other places which don't exactly sound like fun.

Land development in neo-tropical savannas. Looking at small-holder agricultural use of savanna in southern belize probably.

Yeah Plats I love diving so the blue hole and the bay islands in Honduras are on the list for while I'm there.

clearing will be practically non-existent this year - so many applicants due to it costing £££££ next year, unis can afford to pick and choose

on top of that candidates that received offers yet only just missed their required grades would probably get first dibs after you anyway (i'm assuming you're asking for yourself)

Are ANY decent unis doing clearing this year? Most of them announced they wouldn't be in lik october, so many more applications than places.

Expected applications by june; 729,376

Places on offer; 487,329 (The Times 8/2/11)
